Peanut Butter Banana Protein Donuts

*Spread* the news! I'm going *nuts* over this new protein donuts recipe!


If you love peanut butter and never say no to bananas, then you're in for a real good treat. Fun fact - I actually hate bananas, but like them only in baking and smoothies - weird, right?


If you liked the other protein donut recipes I shared a while back, you’re going to love these. All of those recipes were a little fancier, a little indulgent, so for this recipe I played around with flavors that are simple but work oh so well:


Peanut Butter and Bananas.


It’s a classic combination that never gets old! Great by themselves, but butter together. Puns aside, trust me, they are amazing together in this easy baked donut recipe.


Peanut Butter Banana Protein Donuts

I love using peanut butter for all sorts of savory and sweet recipes because

  • They’re creamy- great for texture

  • They’re nutty- great for flavor

  • They’re quite filling- always a good thing!

  • Peanut butter is incredibly easy to find and get your hands on


And 5… peanut butter is full of protein! Perfect for a good protein donut. Combine that with bananas, ​​a great source of fiber and important vitamins and minerals, and you’re all set!


If it isn’t obvious already, protein donuts are some of my all-time favorite desserts. What I love about protein donuts is that they have all the fun and deliciousness of a donut, except they’re much much healthier. They have less sugar, are high in protein, and are gluten-free.


You can eat them for breakfast too! Sweet treats in the morning that won’t make me sugar dive? Yes, please. Expect to be properly full until lunch. Or maybe until after? How many donuts are you planning on eating by yourself?


Whether you’re eating these protein donuts for breakfast or as a snack, they’re a great sneaky way to satisfy your sweet tooth and get all of the good nutrients you need all at the same time. Total win-win.

Peanut Butter Banana Protein Donuts

Makes: 6


Ingredients

  • ¾ cup all whole wheat flour

  • ½ cup plant based vanilla protein powder

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • ¼ tsp baking soda

  • ½ cup banana, mashed

  • ½ cup unsweetened plant based milk

  • ¼ cup peanut butter

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp cinnamon


Preparation:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F. Generously grease a donut pan.

  2. In a medium bowl, combine flour, protein powder, poppy seeds, baking powder, and baking soda.

  3. In another bowl, whisk the egg, milk, yogurt, syrup, zest, juice, vanilla, and coconut oil. Pour into the dry mixture, stirring to combine.

  4. Pipe into the donut pan.

  5. Bake for 10-12 minutes
